“Anthurium” is a plant in the ARACEAE family. It is native to Colombia and European countries. The common name is Flamingo Flower or Tail Flower, but people usually call its genus, which comes from the Greek word ‘anthos’ meaning ‘flower’ and ‘ouros’ meaning ‘tail’. Therefore, Anthurium means long and slender inflorescences.
Now, we know its origin. Next, let’s talk about some interesting Anthurium species.
Let’s start with the famous rare plant “Anthurium Veitchii”, a plant native to the rainforests of Colombia. Veitchii comes from ‘John Veitch’, the first plant collector that introduces King Anthurium and other plant species to Europe. What makes it to be the King of the Anthuriums is its thick, shiny arrow-like leaves. The leaf veins are so prominent that you can see the layers. Baby plants are pink, and they will turn dark green when they grow up. If grown indoors, it can grow up to 3 feet, while its size can be double if grown outdoors.
King Anthurium likes dim sunlight. Place at the window where the sun shines and bring a curtain to prevent direct sunlight. It can be planted outside, but be careful not to get too much sunlight because it will burn the leaves. Morning sunlight is the best for King Anthurium. Use well-drained soil and keep it moist. With all of these, King Anthurium will grow up strong.
“Anthurium Warocqueanum”, also known as “Queen Anthurium” is the queen of Anthurium that is as beautiful as its name. This rare gorgeous Anthurium originated in the tropical rainforests of Colombia. This is why it thrives in humid climates, which can grow up to 6 feet. The Queen Anthurium is massive and magnificent. However, you do not need to worry about space because it can grow like ordinary plants if planted indoors. Plus, its fresh green velvet leaves are famous. Once you experience it, you will surely fall in love with the Queen Anthurium!
Queen Anthurium loves a warm and humid climate. Therefore, it should be planted in a bright and ventilated place. Water when the soil is dry. Keeping the humidity around 70% is ideal. Do not expose the leaves to direct sunlight as it can burn them. Just like this, Queen Anthurium will grow effectively.
“Anthurium Clarinervium” is native to America. It is one of the most expensive and rare Anthurium plants. Its prices range from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands. The beauty of Anthurium Clarinervium is its alluring heart-shaped leaves and white vein that glow when exposed the sunlight. The leaf veins start from the middle and curve to the bottom of the leaf at the end. It is considered an unusual pattern that has made the Anthurium Clarinervium preferable.
Planting Anthurium Clarinervium should be paid more attention to. It prefers only about 20% sunlight. You have to keep the environment moist but not wet. Watering in the afternoon and evening is best. The planting materials must be durable, such as rocks, charcoal, and coir husks. Just like this, the Anthurium Clarinervium will stay with us for a long time.
Another rare Anthurium plant is “Anthurium Dorayaki”, its name comes from its shape resembling a round Japanese confectionery like a pancake. The leaves are smooth, thick, and curved like dorayaki batter. The shiny white leaf veins resemble the Anthurium Clarinervium, but the Anthurium Dorayaki leaf veins are wider.
Anthurium Dorayaki loves a humid climate like other anthuriums. It is best to keep it at 70%-90% humidity. Planting in bright and medium sunlight places is recommended. Be careful not to expose it to direct sunlight as the leaves can burn. If you want to enhance its leaf beauty, you can use Osmocote 13-13-13 fertilizer every three months.
